A peka is traditionally a cooking method in a fire pot, a braising vessel with a bell-shaped lid. The starting material is forged iron, cast iron, historically clay or ceramic. Translated, peka actually means "pod pekom", under peka, the cooking happens under a "baking bell". And if you wonder why the peka is called "peka": the Croatian word for a baker is "pekar". In a single pot, all the ingredients can be prepared at the same time on a small base of the cooking area in the form of a fireplace or in a wood-fired oven. But even a wood-burning oven, an ordinary oven achieve reasonable results.
